Traveling from Philly to NJ for weed?
Here's what to expect
While weed is not legal in your home State of Pennsylvania, you’re still in luck! Weed is legal in New Jersey, and there are plenty of dispensaries near the Pennsylvania border.
You won’t need a medical card to purchase recreational cannabis, you just need proof of ID that shows you’re 21 or older. However, a medical card is required if you are part of the state’s medical cannabis program, which allows for certain allowances and tax exemptions not available to recreational users. There are some dispensaries that only serve medical patients and can’t sell to recreational customers so be sure to check their website to confirm before you go.
The good news is, it’s easy. You can check the New Jersey state website to get a full map of every licensed dispensary. Then you can read online reviews, ask for recommendations, and visit the dispensary to evaluate it firsthand. Be sure to tell the budtender it’s your first time visiting the dispensary so they can give you an easy overview of their products and services. It can be a little overwhelming but don’t worry, they’re here to help.
Make sure you have a valid, government-issued ID to prove you are 21 or older. Accepted forms of ID include: a driver’s license, a state or federal ID card, a U.S. military ID, or a passport. Be ready with cash or a debit card, since most dispensaries do not accept credit cards. And if there’s any products you were recommended and that you want to buy, make sure you write those down so you can find them easily on the dispensary menu.
